RE-opening of or running Path

There was great excitement at the re-opening of our running path on Friday September 8th. A huge thank you to SISK and Shannon Valley for carrying out the upgrade. The RTE news2day crew and a reporter from The Echo were on site to cover the event. Students from each class (school record holders) together with SISK volunteers completed a lap of honour around the new path. Thanks to SISK for bringing along an ice-cream van to celebrate the occasion.
School Summer Works
St. Ronan's NS would like to extend a massive thank you to all the volunteers from local businesses SISK and Shannon Valley for the work they carried out during the summer holidays. SISK volunteers upgraded our medical room, completed a refurbishment and refitting of our parent's kitchen, fitted new picnic benches on the yard, painted classrooms, cleaned our gutters and carried out various other maintenance projects around the school grounds. Shannon Valley widened and upgraded our existing running path, installed new Gaelic football goals and marked and lined out our pitch.

Steptember Challenge for Debra Ireland

September 30th saw the end of the STEPtember challenge in St. Ronan's N.S. During the month Casey led her class and staff members to take 10000 steps a day in support of patients and families living with EB. A coffee morning was held by staff. Students donated and wore their butterfly tattoos in support of Debra Ireland. Some friends from SISK dropped by to support as Casey and her class finished their step challenge.
School Building and Grounds

I'm sure you have all noticed the work done on the exterior of the school. The roof was power hosed, the outside of the building was painted. The yard got a deep cleaning. Bushes and trees were trimmed around the school and many areas got a fresh coat of paint.
What you may not see from the gate is the murals at the prefabs, the line painting, general cleaning and the raised beds. Our internal garden has new decking and we were given a new, state of the art alarm system.
All of this work was done voluntarily by John Sisk & Sons, Builders.
There is a story behind their kindness to us. Last year Ms Davy’s 3rd class were doing a Mathematics project whereby some of Sisk’s employees came to our school to encourage the children to think about a future career in the building industry. The Sisk employees were blown away with our pupils, staff and school. They found our pupils to be enthusiastic, engaging, articulate, confident and extremely thankful to Tom, John and Maura. The children told them that they were inspired to go into the building industry as a result of their programme.
Sisk decided to help us brighten up our school and asked their employees to volunteer to help us. There was a huge response and over three days in August, Sisk and Co and many school staff spent over 1000 work hours in the school. The children returned to a lovely bright environment.
On Friday 2nd September, some of the employees from Sisk came to meet the children and brought an ice-cream van with them. They got a very enthusiastic reception when they joined each class up at our outdoor classroom for 99s. Everyone had a lovely time and the Sisk employees were so impressed by our well behaved, impeccably mannered children. Enjoy looking at the photographs!
