safer internet day, feb. 11th, 2025

Picture
Parents/Guardians,
Safer Internet Day takes place on February 11th. This is a time when we draw attention to both the positive and negative aspects of internet use. There will be a range of activities being carried out in the classrooms over the next few days around Internet Safety, eg: a digital blackout, poster competitions, specific internet safety lessons, etc. (please see document below).
We would love it if you would use this time to speak to the children about being safe on the internet. This is a link to a very useful website for parents and teachers; www.webwise.ie/guides-parents/
Thank you.

My child’s data protection rights – the basics

·         This outlines some of the issues that can arise when a parent seeks to exercise data protection rights on behalf of their child.
Children’s data and parental consent
·         This looks at the meaning of the ‘age of digital consent’ and outlines when parents’ consent may be needed for processing their child’s personal data, and how parents can approach those cases.
Protecting my child’s data
·         This is intended to help parents understand the rights that they have in relation to their children’s data and gives some useful advice on how to protect their children’s rights.
Are there any limits on my child’s data protection rights?
·         This outlines some important limits to how and when children’s data protection rights may be exercised, whether by children themselves or by parents on their behalf. It outlines some common situations where these can arise and suggests ways in which parents can address them.

April was Autism Acceptance month at St. Ronan's N.S. Take a look at how our students and teachers spent this month learning about Autism and celebrating diversity. We wore our jumpers inside out for a day to raise awareness of some of the sensory challenges that people with autism may face on a daily basis. We raised money for ASIAM an Irish charity supporting adults and children with autism. Click here to see some more photos.
