The school was founded in 1980 with 14 pupils and one teacher (the retired Principal, Ben Dundon) in a borrowed room in Scoil Talbot in Bawnogue, the neighbouring parish.
The following year Ms. Carmel Lynch became the Deputy Principal, taking the growing number of Junior and Senior Infants in another room. A third teacher followed in 1982, when Áinnle O’Neill joined the staff.
Because of the growing needs of Scoil Talbot itself, the St. Ronan’s “family” were on the move again in September 1982! Nano Nagle Junior School came to the rescue, and we were there for that school year.
Our traveling days were not over yet, as there was still no sign of our own school building. The new Community College (now Gaelscoil Chrónáin) on the Nangor Road, played host to our growing staff and pupils until the glorious day in 1985, when the St. Ronan’s school building opened.

10 prefabricated rooms followed over the years and the school now has 33 teachers, 4 Special Needs Assistants, a Secretary, Librarian, Caretaker, and well over 400 pupils.
Deansrath Community College opened its new premises in 1986 and has been the Second-Level school of choice for most of our former pupils. Indeed, they were most generous in providing classrooms, while we went through the long process of applying for extra prefabricated classrooms on our grounds.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of St. Ronan’s, it was decided to design a booklet that would reflect the diversity of our pupils. At that time we had pupils from Ireland, Vietnam, China, Angola, Congo, Bangladesh, Germany, Egypt, India, Ghana, Kenya, Italy, Latvia, Kurdistan, Mexico, Lithuania, Philippines, Nigeria, Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Somalia and South Africa. Children from each nation made a “Fact File” did some art work and their parents and grandparents submitted recipes from that country. The result was a beautiful booklet entitled: “A Flavour of St. Ronan’s”.
